 December 2006

We'd like to wish all our clients, colleagues, and associates all the best for the Holiday Season and the New Year!

HOLIDAY HOURS
Please note that the studio will be closed for the holidays from Sat Dec 23/06 to Mon Jan 1/07. Normal hours resume on Tues Jan 2/07.

 October/November 2006

Both October and November was a blur of activity at the studio - we've worked with several business & life coaches on audio and video presentations & seminars, as well as video for local rock-revivalists Grampapunk, and for networking organization BNI.

We also worked on software audio for Autoskill International - a local hi-tech firm - along with more video for Health Canada, a musical arrangement for Canada Mortgage and Housing (CMHC), and 2006 Kiwanis Idol runner-up Jenna Taggart came in to cut her demo.

 September 2006

Up and coming Ottawa rockers Third Eye were in working on their first demo. This high-energy young band is just starting to play around town - watch for their forthcoming shows.

Phil Houle's (from Ottawa's melodic rockers Forbidden Dream) new solo album "Breathe" is just about to head into post-production - the material is an excellent mix of both acoustic and electric-based tracks. Look for it to be out shortly!

Mixing for the new album by Florida Jazz-rockers Stuey Blue has just been completed and is in the hands of John Scrip at Massive Mastering for the finishing touches.  Watch for its release soon.

Congratulations to the winners of Kiwanis Idol 2006.  The competition was very very close between the top five contestants, making the judge's jobs exceptionally difficult.

And the top five are...

The top-three contestants all receive recording time at Blue Bear Sound, along with a photo shoot at Sharlow Photography, and a chance to perform on next year's Kiwanis Idol CD.

The final event this year was MC'd by A-Channel's Kurt Stoodley and Stephanie Beaumont....

...and judged by:
- Blue Bear's own Bruce Valeriani (top)
- Maya Ethier
from Maya's School of Music (bottom left)
- Diane Theron from The Ottawa Sun  (bottom right)

Congratulations to all the participants!!!

 August 2006

Congratulations to the winners of the Parkway Road Pentecostal Church - Battle of the Bands!  First prize consisting of 9 hrs of recording time went to Curious Halo, and second prize of a Live-Off-The-Floor session went to Your Portrait Here.

Work is progressing on the Kiwanis Idol CD.  Watch for a 3-song EP previewing the forthcoming album coming out this September!

 June/July 2006

Forbidden Dream's Phil Houle is in the studio working on a solo project, and Ottawa rock revivalists Grampapunk were just in recording their new demo, and work is progressing on the 2005 Kiwanis Idol Sampler CD.

Video projects are in abundance with post-production for Xactly Design, BNI East, as well as a several wedding & memorial DVDs -- and VO sessions continue with more projects for Acoustiguide, Nancy Morris, Michael Hughes as well as Rhonda Finniss.

It's that time of year again and Blue Bear Sound is proud to once more be sponsoring the annual Kiwanis Idol competition.

Auditions are being held Aug. 5-6 at the Ottawa City Hall on Laurier from 9-5pm.

 April/May 2006

We've been doing a ton of mixing for a wide-variety of Indie projects -- New Hotness from Cali, prog rock by Florida's Cosmic Singularity, more material from Stuey Blue as well as  TunnelVision - and Ottawa trio Addison was in to cut a couple more songs for their upcoming release.

As well, things have been hopping in the areas of DVD production and voice-over editing/post-production. Recent projects include noted speaker/networking master Michael Hughes, "Speaking of Success" mastermind Nancy Morris, as well as video post for  BNI East and Caralyn's Hair and Wig Design.

 February 2006

While all 6 finalists were excellent, the Rock Resolution competition ended the last week of January with Ottawa trio Addison winning 18 hrs of time at Blue Bear Sound.

Work still continues on the mixing of Ottawa Indie-artist Brant Pethick's new album, as well as the TunnelVision and Stuey Blue projects.  A new project by Gord Smith from Creekhouse Records is also underway.
